Tent Requirements:
Location: Tents must be located a minimum of 15 feet away from permanent structures and 20 feet from parked vehicles. And 10 feet between tents.
Seating: There should be no seating for patrons under tents used for cooking.
Cooking: Any cooking under a tent requires prior approval and inspection. Ormond Beach Firewall will inspect and make their independent decision.
Flame-Resistance: Tent fabric must be flame-retardant, meeting NFPA 701 standards, and documentation of compliance must be provided.
Anchoring: Tents should be properly anchored with weights, with recommended weight per leg depending on the tent size, especially in case of inclement weather.
Fire Safety:
Fire Extinguishers: Each tent should have a readily accessible fire extinguisher (2A-10BC).
Grease Fire Protection: If the vendor produces grease-laden vapors, a Class K fire extinguisher is also required.
Propane: Propane cylinders must be properly secured and kept a safe distance from the tent and heat sources.
Open Flames: Open flames are generally prohibited within 20 feet of any tent open to the public, with exceptions for designated cooking tents.
Smoking: Smoking is prohibited under all tents.
Other Considerations:
Clearances:
Ensure proper clearances are maintained between tents, structures, vehicles, and fire hydrants.
Ventilation:
If cooking creates grease-laden vapors, an exhause must be used to direct those vapors away from the tent. Use a product such as Vevor Portable Utility Blower
Exit and Emergency Lighting:
For larger tents, particularly those open to the public, exit and emergency lighting may be required.
Contact the Fire Marshal:
It's crucial to contact the local fire marshal's office for specific requirements and guidance.
